Why I Built Plana for Success

Rooted in Culture. Driven by Purpose.

By Lauren Yanthis

Legacy isn’t something that just happens — it’s something we create with intention. Every decision, every story, and every opportunity we pass on becomes part of the foundation for the next generation. That belief is what led me to build Plana for Success, a culturally grounded brand dedicated to uplifting and empowering the African American community.

As a mother, I’ve always thought about the future I want to leave for my children, Yasmin and Mekhi. Both of them chose to attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Watching them step into that tradition filled me with pride, but it also opened my eyes to a difficult reality: too many Black students never finish their degrees, not because they lack talent or drive, but because financial barriers stand in their way. That should never be the reason someone’s dreams are cut short.

Plana for Success was born from that conviction. This brand is more than products on a shelf — it’s a movement to uplift, inspire, and empower. Our mission is simple but powerful: to create resources and opportunities that honor Black culture, celebrate Black excellence, and make success more attainable for students and young professionals.

At its heart, Plana is about representation and authenticity. From the designs we create to the stories we tell, everything is rooted in culture. But Plana is also about action. That’s why part of our work includes philanthropic efforts like scholarships, student support programs, and internship opportunities. Financial barriers in education shouldn’t decide who graduates and who doesn’t. True legacy is built not only through what we inherit, but through the doors we open for others.

This blog, Voices of the Legacy, is another way we bring that vision to life. Here, you’ll find:

  • Student Spotlights that highlight real HBCU journeys — stories of resilience, triumph, and growth.
  • Cultural Conversations that explore Black heritage and connect it to today’s issues.
  • Mentor Wisdom from professionals, alumni, and leaders who share advice with the next generation.
  • Legacy in Action updates on our philanthropic efforts, including balance-clearing support and internship highlights.
  • Growth and Success Tips that provide practical guidance for students and young professionals.
  • And of course, Behind the Brand reflections like this one, where I share Plana’s journey openly and honestly.

By combining Black legacy storytelling with practical resources, this blog is designed to serve as both inspiration and empowerment. Whether it’s celebrating a student overcoming obstacles, a mentor offering guidance, or shining a light on the power of community, every voice here adds to a chorus of uplift and representation.

This first post is just the beginning. My hope is that as you read, you feel connected, inspired, and reminded that you’re part of a much larger story — one rooted in resilience, African American empowerment, and generational strength.

Thank you for being here at the start of Plana’s journey. I invite you to stay connected by subscribing to this blog or following us on social media. Your voice matters here, and together, we can continue building generational legacy, creating opportunities, and defining success on our own terms.
